On the same Karachi-to-Faisalabad sweep in which Imran Khan took 40 wickets at 13.95, Miandad produced his greatest Test innings. India came in to bat and were soon in trouble, but the game's centrepiece was Pakistan's first innings, in which Mudassar Nazar (231) and Miandad added 451 for the third wicket — the third-highest third-wicket partnership in Test history. Miandad reached his double hundred and pressed on. With the score at 581 for 3 and Miandad on 280 not out, Imran declared, ending Miandad's chance of breaking Garry Sobers's then-Test world record of 365 not out. India were then dismissed twice, for 189 and 273, with Imran taking 11 wickets in the match, and Pakistan won by an innings and 119 runs to take an unassailable 3-0 series lead. Miandad later said publicly that he had not begrudged the declaration; Imran had wanted to bowl India out twice on a deteriorating pitch and got his wish.
